The Southwest Florida Corrosion Challenge

The combination of salt air, humidity, heat, and UV radiation in Southwest Florida creates one of the most corrosive environments for marine hardware in the country. Even high-grade 316 stainless steel will tea-stain and pit if not maintained.

Our polish process uses marine-grade metal polishing compounds to cut through oxidation and surface contamination, followed by a protective sealant to rebuild the passive oxide layer and resist future tarnishing. The result is hardware that looks brand new and stays cleaner longer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does stainless steel tarnish and rust in saltwater?

Despite the name, stainless steel is not fully rustproof. Salt, moisture, and chlorine deplete the passive oxide layer that makes it 'stainless,' leading to tea staining, pitting, and eventually rust if left untreated. Regular polishing and protective coating restore and maintain this layer.

How often should I have my stainless polished?

For boats used regularly in Southwest Florida's saltwater environment, we recommend polishing every 3–4 months. Heavy-use vessels or those exposed to significant spray may benefit from more frequent treatment.

Can you remove existing rust spots?

Light to moderate surface rust and tea staining can often be removed with professional-grade polish and our process. Severe pitting may require additional restoration work — we'll assess this during the job.

Do you treat aluminum as well as stainless?

Yes. We have products and techniques appropriate for aluminum hardware and trim pieces as well as stainless steel. Just let us know what your boat has and we'll bring the right products.
